How Did I Get Here?
People with eating disorders have an unhealthy relationship or an obsession over food, but even people who don’t feel they have an eating disorder often turn to food for comfort. To learn to eat well and exercise regularly, you may also have to learn to handle the problems life throws at you without turning away from healthy eating and exercise.
Be particularly careful about all-or-nothing thinking. A common tendency when failing to stay on a diet is to abandon it altogether. Instead, try to learn from your mistakes and do better in the future.
Take Control of What You Eat
There are few things that we have don’t have control of, like our genetic propensity to gain weight, but what we put in our mouths is something we have complete control over.
We don’t have to go to a restaurant or our friend’s place and lose control, eating everything that is put in front of us.
- Restaurants have notoriously big quantities and an obscenely high amount of calories.
- When you do go out to eat, don’t go starving, and make sure to look at the menu beforehand to make a sensible choice.
Eat Frequently, and Eat Slowly
When you skip a meal your metabolism starts to slow in order to conserve your energy. Because a fast metabolism is vital to losing weight, you can’t afford to skip meals—especially breakfast. To keep your metabolism high it is important to also eat healthy snacks between meals.
Eating frequently prevents hunger pangs and the binges that follow, provides consistent energy, and may be the single most effective way to maintain metabolism efficiency.
Also, remember to eat slowly so that your body will have enough time to tell you when it is full so that you don’t end up overeating.
Eat More Fruits, Vegetables and Whole Grains
If you focus on eating healthy, mostly unprocessed foods, including fruit, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, and limited amounts of lean animal protein, you will find that you can eat pretty much as much as you want without gaining weight.
Look for a Supplement
There has been so much research done in the last few decades and the diet industry really has made some huge strides in the quest to end our weight loss woes. However, you must remember that even the best weight loss supplement must be paired with a sensible diet and healthy exercise plan in order to see the best results.
